Rui Campos may have got his championship hopes back on track at round three of the Shelby Can Am championship at Zwartkops, but the biggest cheer of the day was reserved for championship leader Brian Algar in the Hollard backed car.

Having been one of the pace-setters during Friday’s practice sessions, Algar was forced to miss the afternoon’s official qualifying and thus started the opening race from the back of the grid.

Shelby Can-Am is South Africa’s only national championship for sports car series and is set to thrill a large crowd as it travels to the tight, yet demanding 2.4 km Zwartkops circuit near Pretoria for round three of the championship.

Beneath the sleek glass reinforced fibre body is a robust Carroll Shelby designed space frame chassis, which easily accommodates the mildly tuned Nissan 3.5litre V6 engines. Completing the package is a burly Weisman transaxle which gets the power to the wheels.
