Shelby Technical Bulletin 3/08:

Following the meeting held at Hugo’s  on the  19th March the following has been agreed and will be verified by a MSA issued bulletin. Please proceed with changes required to your cars, if required, PRIOR to the Kyalami event on the 12th April as certain technical issues (not restricted to this bulletin) will be checked during this event.

  1. Fire Wall:  In spite of SSR2.A.(iv) seemingly referring to saloon cars, it has been agreed that ALL Shelbys will close the fire wall to the top of the cross bar thus “preventing the passage of flame into the space occupied by the driver”.
  2. Brake cooling: The aperture in the front centre nose section of the car may be opened to maximum size to allow the inflow of air. A fibreglass collector (as supplied by Garth) may be mounted onto the splitter to receive this air flow and funnel the air, via 2 x 75 mm pipes,  to the front brake discs. The collector complete with brackets and pipes is available from Universal Products.
  3. Front Splitter: Only splitters as currently approve by the SCRA may be used. The mounting of the splitter must be with the brackets as approved by the SCRA. No height adjustable brackets are allowed  at the rear. The lower pivot mount point will be fixed with the upper mount adjustable fore and aft. Support stays for the moment are free.
  4. Radiator ducting: The front and rear panels of the “crash box” may be removed and replaced with a steel mesh to allow the through flow of air. The left crash box profile may be altered as per photographs, but must be complete in structure. The bodywork may also be altered to follow the down slope of the crash box allowing a greater air intake/duct to the radiator. Body modification as per photograph only.
  5. Engine Cover: Air vents as approved by SCRA may be fitted to the horizontal surfaces on both left and right hand sides. Air vents/slates may be fitted on the rearward upper surface of the engine cover. NO air intake or ducting, may protrude beyond the outside of the body.
  6. Rear Tail: Holes may be cut into the body below the current tail lights to allow the escape of air. These holes must be covered on the inside by a mesh.
  7. Diffuser: As Approved by the SCRA. Slots and vents  as well as internal ducting, including but not limited to the construction of wheel “wells” may be fitted into/onto the diffuser to assist with the extraction of air from the engine compartment. No protrusion of this beyond the rear bodywork. No extension to the “veins” allowed.
  8. Wing End Plates:  May not exceed 440mm  x 270mm and must be fitted with a maximum of 30mm clearance to the wing profile. A gurney tab not exceeding 12mm is permitted.
  9. Tyres: 24 tyres allowed for qualifying and race. Practise  tyres are free. The SAME tyres MUST be used in qualifying and race.
  10. Safety: One emergency pull cable must be fitted to the plumbed fire extinguisher system, operable by the driver. A 2nd cable may be fitted for external operation next to the cut out switch.

Competitors attention is drawn to the Shelby Can-Am Regulations and Specifications Art.1 and 2. Please read and understand the process.
