Zwartkops International Raceway Opening 24th March 2001
- March 2001

Open Practice day

I would like to express my feelings to the Motorsport world at large regarding this newly commissioned circuit.

It is early days yet to write such a flowering report. But from the input of Peter Du Toit and his great team I must say I am very impressed with the manner in which they have presented the circuit, the layout and the facilities that are to come. They have much to build on, but just by the way in which the circuit has been presented, we have once again History in the making here.

Every competitor that attended the open day had no apprehensions and was very happy with the facility as it was. Understanding that there is still much work to be done to make it a first class facility.  What is very evident is that what is already provided is nevertheless impeccable.

This class of circuit has been needed for many years in our region, and will be supported in the years to come by not only our regional and national competitors, but also by the spectator, who has in my opinion the best racing vantage points compared to any other circuit in this country.

By the turnout and enthusiasm, of competitors and spectators on the opening day, even when the facilities off circuit were not 100%, I must gauge the future of this historic circuit. To the finest safety aspects and to the challenging layout. This is our finest regional circuit in the country.

Yes there are many infrastructures that have still to be built around this new circuit; I believe it has a great future. Not only for Regional racing but for Nationals as well.

We must credit the people that put their lives and expertise at stake to make this  happen. We as mere Motorsport fanatics must come to the party and rally around the circuit owners and people that have and will make things happen here.

The crowds that came just to watch were unbelievable. Parking was a problem as most the outer circuit is not ready yet. Most competitors found the hairpin very deceptive and had long excursions off the track. But this was inevitable without break markers. They will be there.

Thanks to the about 110 competitors who braved the wet conditions, and also the marshals who came to help you and this new circuit set up what is to become a South African National Circuit of note.

As the days go bye this circuit will evolve into a draw card of note.  We wish the circuit owners and developers everything of the best. You have provided Gauteng with what we have wanted for the past 4 years. Please live up to our expectations. We know you will.

Long Live Zwartkops.

Looking forward to a bright future. Thank you.

With the safety and competition always at the fore.

Yours truly,

Henry Schultz.
