The AA Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit has been
reissued with an FIM Grade A license, valid for two years, following a
circuit inspection this week.
FIM Safety Officer Claude Danis, along with World Superbike Championship
riders representative Franco Uncini, a former world champion, gave the AA
Kyalami circuit a clean bill of health. The circuit inspection was
standard practice prior to the third round of the WSBK championship at the
Midrand complex from April 5 to 7.
“We are delighted that Danis has given us a clean bill of health,” said AA
Racing managing director Piet Swanepoel. “The work Danis has asked for can
be classified as routine maintenance, and at this stage we are ahead of
the game when it comes to organising the April event.”
The inspection also provided a bonus for AA Kyalami and a local paint
manufacturer. Danis was impressed with the quality of the paint used for
circuit and kerb markings, and has asked that AA Racing and the supplier
supply paint to other circuits hosting rounds of the WSBK series this
year.
This year’s World Superbike championship will also feature rounds of the
World Supersport and Superside World Sidecar Championships. Negotiations
are also underway with the Flammini Group, which operates the world
championship, over admission prices.
“Times are hard at the moment, and we are looking to negotiate ticket
prices that are reasonably priced for an event of this stature, and which
provide value for money,” said Swanepoel. “An announcement on admission
prices can be expected in due course.” |
