VSP Sports Cars make their debut in PE
- 6 June 2002

The VSP Sports Cars with their new Nissan engines make their debut in PE this weekend. If the proceeding races are anything to go by, we are in for another humdinger of a war! But first a little data on the new engine. It is a Nissan VQ 3.5 litre V6 with double overhead camshaft and variable cam timing, producing about 220kilowatts @ 6500 rpm, and a torque of some 370nm @5250rpm.

The races have been made very close by the introduction of this motor, which makes a beautiful sound, and there has been close racing through the entire field. This has led to some spectacular accidents and there are some very big scores to settle between drivers. The guys to watch are George Ferrirea (PAK 2000) who has a score to settle with Bernard Tilanus (Platinum Asset), they had a coming together while fighting for the lead. But then George also strong-armed the young flyer Melvill Priest (Caltex), who is fresh from Jim Russell Racing School in the UK, at the start at Kyalami, so there is no love lost between the two!

Don Roscoe (Optimum Racing Developments) has set the lap record at Cape Town and East London, he missed out at Kyalami, where it went to the wily fox Bernard Tilanus (Platinum Asset), and he is determined to return home with the record. Others to watch who are in the running for championship honours are Neil Lobb (DK Woodcraft), Francois Gerber (The Tool Shop), Allan Eve (Ode’s Autobody). As usual the Green numbers are for the race within a race, to humour the over 50 drivers, watch them try to sock it to the youngsters, and their peers.

Lastly we are running a competition for our new Logo, please visit the voting page and vote, you might be a lucky winner. Alternatively go to the VSP Sports Car display in the pits and vote there!
