The quick, loud and spectacular
Vodacom Sports Racing series returns to the tight and twisty confines of
Zwartkops Raceway this Saturday. (14
September). With bags of power from reliable 3.5 litre Nissan V6
powerplants, the series has proved to be one of the highlights of the
popular Vodacom Power Tour. Two solid results from DK Woodcraft
driver, Neil Lobb at AA Kyalami last month has set the scene for a close
finish to this season’s Vodacom Sports Racing championship. Lobb launched himself into second
place in the points log after a spin in the second race dropped
championship leader Bernard Tilanus down the field. The result at Kyalami
changed the order at the top and although Tilanus enjoys a fairly
comfortable 31-point championship lead, there are 40 points on offer and
things could change. Protea Playing Card backed Donovan
Roscoe prepares his own car and a strong performance at the last race sees
him just two points behind Lobb. Mechanical gremlins ruined reigning
champion, George Ferreira’s day at AA Kyalami, and he has dropped to
fourth, but this has made him more determined than ever. “The task is quite simple really. I
have to win both races at Zwartkops – I’ve done it before so I’m
confident,” said the Pak 2000 supported veteran. Francois Gerber (Tool Shop) holds
currently holds fifth, but is another driver capable of upsetting the
plans of the championship contenders by winning.
A string of consistent finishes by Direct Recruitment Group driver
Dave Beattie sees him rounding off the top six although hard charging Alan
Eve is only one point behind and he is more than capable of winning. Another driver capable of running at
the front is former motorcycle racer Clive Kennerley in the DK Privacy
car. Add Melvill Priest
(Havoline) and former Formula GTI Champion Marco da Cunha to the field and
even the most seasoned motorsport punters would hesitate to predict a
winner. Points
