EXCITEMENT, EXCITEMENT AND MORE EXCITEMENT FOR LAST ROUND OF THE VODACOM POWER TOUR
- 7 November 2002

The final round of the Vodacom Power Tour sponsored by Playstation 2 and GP Windscreens will take place at the AA Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on the 23rd November 2002.

And, the stage is set for a frenzy of activity both on and off the track. With Playstation using the event to launch their latest FIA licensed rally game WRC II, they will have a transporter on display with Playstation 2 consoles in it, featuring the new game and giving race fans the opportunity to try it out. Playstation will run a competition, with the person who sets the fastest stage time winning a Playstation 2 console. In addition, they will also be giving away 5000 Playstation 2 water bottles to the first 5000 people to try the game. In addition, they will have the Playstation sponsored Mitsubishi Pajero that competes in the SA National Off-Road Series on display.

The associate sponsor for the day, GP Windscreens has been involved in the automotive business for almost three decades. GP Windscreens still remains one of South Africa’s most respected suppliers of windscreens to corporate fleet managers, the auto repair industry and the insurance and motor trades. They will use the day to announce that they are to become the official car glass supplier to the South African Production Car series for 2003.

There will also be a lunchtime track parade consisting of eight replica World Rally cars, consisting of two Peugeot 206’s, two Subaru Impreza Turbo’s, two Ford Focus’s and two Mitsubishi Lancer Evo’s. There will also be other vehicles on the parade that are sure to entertain the crowds, including the seven 2003 Car of the Year finalists, which were recently announced at the Auto Africa show. In addition, there will be a children’s play area close to the Playstation 2 area, at the back of the Pit’s near the Playstation 2 bridge. In the same area, the Vodacom Power Tour will have driver and rider autograph signing sessions.

The Vodacom Power Tour will have a merchandise stall at the track on Saturday the 23rd. The blue gazebo situated at the back of the Pit Lane will sell local and international team paraphernalia as well as Vodacom Power Tour caps, stickers etc.

Be on the look out too for celebrities walking around the Pit Lane. We have it on good authority that 5Fm’s Sasha Martinengo and model Ilsa Nel, fresh from her SA Sports Illustrated Swimwear 2002 feature in Zanzibar, will be at the 23rd November race day.

On both the Friday and Saturday nights, there will be a huge party in the Vodacom Power Tour Paddock Club situated above Pit Lane. The huge enclosed area will be turned into a festive pub with the pre-race party taking place there on the Friday night, while on the Saturday evening, the official Prize Giving will take place in the area followed by a huge season ending party.
