Top lady racer to make VSP debut
- 21 June 2004

South Africa's fastest lady racer, Cindy Evans will be on the grid at Saturday's round of the Vodacom Sports Prototype championship.

Randburg resident, Evans will be driving the car used to good effect in the past by former champion Bernard Tilanus. The car has been prepared at the John Abbot Motorsport workshop at Kyalami.

Last week she had  a successful test at Zwartkops and, according to reports from the team, she quickly settled down to competitive lap times. "The car needed a lot of work, but she went out and did a good job and impressed me with her professional approach," said John Abbot boss Francois Pretorius.

Evans started racing in Formula M before her teen years and is perhaps better known for her spectacular hard driving behind the wheel of a Renault Gordini in the Classic Touring Car championship. A few years ago she spent a season racing the Irish Formula Ford series.

Since her return, she has also been kept busy racing a 2-litre hot Rod at Wesbank Raceway.
