Pole sitter Donovan Roscoe (Stanley Shelby), Neil Lobb (DK Woodcraft Shelby) and Francois Gerber (Autohaus Shelby) were involved in a first corner accident, all three of them unable to continue. Darryn Lobb (DK Woodcraft/S21 Shelby) inherited the lead from a very determined Rui Campos (Boltt Shelby). Darryn never put a foot wrong and eventually crossed the stripe less than a second ahead of Campos. Ruan Pretorius (John Abbot Motorsport Shelby) finished a distant and lonely 3rd. Alan Eve (Odes Autobody Shelby) was 4th, after setting the fastest lap of the heat. Colin Frost (Strocam Shelby) got the better of the hard charging Veron Pappas (Hellermann Tyton Shelby) and claimed 5th place, with Pappas right behind him. Pappas started from the back of the grid, after doing severe damage to his Nissan engine on Friday, unable to set a qualifying time. His team worked right through the night to install a new motor. All was going well for him, until the alternator belt slipped off and he was left with a misfiring car, due to a lack of battery voltage. Gary Green (Autozone Shelby) passed Clare Vale (The Truck Man Shelby) on lap 3, and never looked back, Vale kept him honest, but a spin near the end of the race, put paid to her challenge – she eventually finished 8th. Peter Bailey (Fuchs Shelby) and Franz Pretorius (John Abbot Motorsport Shelby) where 9th and 10th, though many laps behind, both suffering mechanical problems. |

Lobb and Gerber’s teams got their respective cars patched up and ready for heat 2, but Donovan Roscoe was not as fortunate, as he ran out of time, and could not make the start. Campos lead from the start, with Gerber and Lobb in hot pursuit. Lobb soon got the better of Gerber and set his sights on the lead. Campos fended off the pressure for a while, but the mistake that Lobb was waiting for eventually happened on lap 6 - Campos running wide and spinning, allowing Gerber through as well. Gerber chased Lobb hard, but made a mistake himself, out braking himself and burying his car deep into the tyre barrier. Campos, now running in 2nd, had Darryn Lobb filling his mirrors, but this time he resisted the pressure and kept it on the black stuff, taking 2nd, and Lobb 3rd. Ruan Pretorius had another quiet race and rook a very distant 4th. Veron Pappas, this time starting from the pit lane, carved his way through the field, all the way to 5th. Alan Eve shook off the early challenge from Colin Frost and Franz Pretorius, and finished 6th. Gary Green, looking racier than he has ever done, tried in vain to take 8th from Franz Pretorius, Green eventually finishing two tenths of second behind Pretorius. Clare Vale had an eventful race falling victim to the Pappas charge, but she got back on the track, and got the better of Richard Wood, to take 10th. Peter Bailey ended off his miserable weekend, with 12th place, his gear lever breaking on lap one, leaving him in 3rd for the reaming 14 laps. Neil Lobb extends his championship lead and Donovan Roscoe will soon forget the whole weekend, as he failed to complete one racing lap. The series next moves to the home of SA racing, Kyalami on the 25th of June. |
