ROSCOE AND LOBB SHARE VICTORY LAURELS
- 27 November 2006

Though Ruan Pretorius (Castrol EDGE) had already clinched the championship at the previous round of the championship there was no holding back as the fastest national single seater series arrived at Kyalami Grand Prix circuit for the final round of this year’s championship.

Donovan Roscoe (Stanley Tools) showed he was the man to watch early on as he set the pace in the qualifying sessions. Roscoe took full advantage of his pole position to lead the first race from start to finish ahead of former Shelby champ Neil Lobb Neil Lobb (Caltex Havoline).

Ruan Pretorius and Darryn Lobb (DK Woodcraft) engaged in an all-mighty battle for the final podium slot. After swapping positions several times Pretorius eventually took third place with Lobb fourth.

Fifth place went to visiting Italian racer Marco Jacoboni (Hollard Insurance), who made the trip to SA especially to compete in this weekend’s racing. Colin Frost (Strocam) rounded out the top six ahead of JP Bredenhann (Panel-Rite), Peter Bailey (Bailey Edwards) and Chris Hart (Hi-Plettenburg Bay).

Also making the trip from Italy to SA, Gianni Bellandi (Hollard Insurance) quickly got to grips with the Kyalami circuit to head Sean Greve (Vulcania Reinforcing Construction), Franz Pretorius (Castrol) and Clare Vale (The Truck Man).

Fellow Italian racer Alberto Corradi (Hollard Insurance) fended off the likes of Brian Algar (Hemisphere Risk Solutions), Harry Roscoe (Stanley Tools), Richard Wood (Almar Packaging) and a recovering Karl Zachau (Driveline Technologies).

The second heat saw Neil Lobb make an early charge for the head of the pack, he continued on to cross the chequered flag ahead of Roscoe. Ruan Pretorius and Darryn Lobb were once again embroiled in a close fought battle. However it wasn’t long before contact occurred and Lobb was left stranded in the kitty litter.

Pretorius continued on to take third position ahead of Rui Campos (Boltt), Chris Hart and Jean-Paul Bredenhann. Karl Zachau faired better in the second heat taking seventh place from Colin Frost, Peter Bailey and the 2006 veterans champion Franz Pretorius.

Gianni Bellandi was once again fighting amongst the mid-field contestants where he got the better of Sean Greve, Brian Algar and Clare Vale, while Alberto Corradi headed Richard Wood and Harry Roscoe. Marco Jacoboni was less fortunate as his SA experience came to an end in the kitty litter.

The new-look Shelby Can-Am Championship will form part of the newly formed ProTour Series in 2007. The new series consists of eight championship rounds and kicks of on 17 February at Wesbank Raceway.
