HOLLARD SHELBY CAN-AMS SET FOR ALL OUT ACTION AT PHAKISA FREEWAY

Phakisa Freeway in Welkom, plays host to round five of the 2007 Hollard Shelby Can-Am Championship on Saturday 28 July. Neil Lobb (DK Woodcraft) currently heads the championship log but faces stiff opposition from a number of challengers, in particular his son Darryn Lobb (DK Woodcraft). A mere two points separate the father and son pairing while Donavan Roscoe (Stanley Tools) is just 10 points in arrears and waiting to strike. This year’s championship is emerging as a close fought affair and has provided close racing and constant action. At Phakisa Freeway the second heat of the day will once again see the Hollard Shelby Can-Ams go head to head with the Altech Porsche Unlimited competitors. The combined race has become one of the most spectacular races of the Pro Tour Series with the large field offering an unrivalled spectacle. With the championship on the line there will be plenty at stake when competitors take to the track on July 28th. Rui Campos (HUGO BOSS) remains capable of upsetting the status quo at the front of the field, while Jean Paul Bredenhann (BIG FOOT Express) and Alan Eve (Boss) could also pose a threat. Looking to further their points tally will be; Sean Greve (Vulcania Reinforcing Company), Colin Frost (Strocam) and Sam Hammond (San Marco), with Karl Zachau (Driveline/Salt) and Chris Hart (Hi-Q Plettenburg Bay) also looking for a points scoring finishes. At the previous round of the championship, at Zwartkops Raceway, a first corner incident saw the tables turned in the midfield battle with a number of midfield competitors dropping to the back of the pack and vice versa. The prime beneficiaries of this incident were Peter Bailey (Bailey Edwards Cars) and Rob Wall (Vered Estates). Hoping to avoid such an incident at Phakisa will be Craig Shorter (Hollard Insurance) and Brian Algar (Omnicover). Joining the Hollard Shelby Can-Am fight at Phakisa will be Mark Attieh and Jennifer Murray (Bravo Holdings). Murray has competed extensively in single seater racing having formerly contested in the Formula Ford championship and towards the end of last year had the opportunity to test with a Formula 3000. Although Phakisa will be her debut in the Can-Am series she’ll be one to keep a close eye on. Attieh on the other hand is no stranger to Prototype Sports Cars. Having formerly competed against many of the Can-Am competitors in the days of the VSP series, he is looking forward to getting back in the thick of the action. Completing the field of entries are Dave Beatie (BACE Structural Engineers), Harry Roscoe (Protea Playing Cards) and Richard Wood (ALMAR Packaging). |
