The gloomy weather and strong wind made for some interesting conditions as the pen-ultimate round of the Hollard Shelby Can Am tour stormed the asphalt of Zwartkops Raceway. Spectators were thrilled by the wheel to wheel action as the battle for the championship title continued. In the first race of the day, Darryn Lobb (DK Woodcraft) started in pole position followed by Donavan Roscoe (Stanley Tools) and Rui Campos (Hugo Boss). Fourth and fifth on the grid were Chris Hart (Hi Q Plettenburg Bay) and Neil Lobb (DK Woodcraft) respectively. Darryn Lobb took another step closer to his first South African national title by winning the day’s first heat ahead of Roscoe in second position. Chris Hart had another good outing taking the final podium slot. Further down the field Rui Campos came in fourth, after starting in fifth place behind Neil Lobb – who finished race one in fifth position. The rest of the field comprised of Brian Algar (Firedart Eng.U/Writers) in sixth place followed by Alan Eve (Hugo Boss) in seventh, Sean Greve (Vulcania Reinforcing) in eighth, Craig Shorter (Hollard Insurance) in ninth and Karl Zachau (Driveline/Salt) managing to clinch tenth place. Rob Wall (Vered Estate) and Jennifer Murray (Bravo Holdings) finished race one in 11th and 12th place respectively. Harry Roscoe (Protea Playing Cards), Samuel Hammond (San Marco), Colin Frost (Strocam), Greg Bailey (Bailey Edwards), Richard Wood (Almar Packaging) and Dave Beattie (Bace Structural Engineers) rounded off the end of the pack. In race two, Darryn Lobb, Donavan Roscoe and Rui Campos started in the same position as race one, but Neil Lobb now started in fourth place. Once again, the race was tight with hardly any mistakes by the front runners resulting in Darryn Lobb cinching another win for the day. Donavan Roscoe and Rui Campos also finished the race in the position that they started along with Neil Lobb in fourth. Karl Zachau scored a fifth place and Alan Eve ended in sixth. The final race of the season will be a nail biting affair as the championship will come down to the wire at Kyalami Grand Prix circuit on 3 November. Darryn Lobb heads the pack with a comfortable gap over Donavan Roscoe while Neil Lobb now lies in the third place in the standings. 2007 HOLLARD SHELBY CAN AM CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS 1 Darryn Lobb DK Woodcraft 248 2 Donavan Roscoe Stanley Tools 227 3 Neil Lobb DK Woodcraft 216 4 Rui Campos HUGO BOSS 190 5 Alan Eve HUGO BOSS 138 6 Brian Algar Firedart Eng Underwriters 117 |
