Mighty M6 and Shelby CanAm racer headline RPM
- 13 February 2008

Plug a mighty V10 into a BMW 6-Series Coupé, and the result is a 2+2 luxury tourer with the kind of sledgehammer performance we've come to expect of BMW's M-cars. Yes, the M6 is a real grin machine!

But even the M6's tar-burning dynamics can't compete with the 300 km/h Shelby CanAm sports car racer track-tested in this week's show. A 240 kW Nissan V6 punts along 850 kg of lightweight fibreglass racer. We track-test the latest, 2008 version at the Kyalami racing circuit.

Renault's sporting heritage is epitomised by road cars like the Renault Megane R26. But what if your budget doesn't stretch that far? The new Megane 2.0 GT could be the answer. It looks the part, while an ultra-tractable two-litre turbo powerplant adds ample shove. It all equates to great value.

Finally, value is also the main theme of the Hyundai Accent SR sedan. The body kit is hardly subtle, but it's certainly distinctive, and it's factory approved. But an airy interior, generous boot, impressive packaging and nippy performance make for an attractive compact car option.

This week's RPM motoring show premieres earlier than usual, due to live athletics and live cricket. Therefore, the premiere transmission is on Wednesday, 13 February at 18h00 on SuperSport 5
